Chile and Australia Hold 60% of the World’s Lithium Reserves
What we’re showing
Reported country reserves of lithium, based on data from a 2023 report by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The total adds up to roughly 26M tons.
Important context
Note that “reserves” differs from “total resources”.
From the USGS:
Reserves may be considered a working inventory of mining companies’ supplies of an economically extractable mineral commodity. As such, the magnitude of that inventory is necessarily limited by many considerations, including cost of drilling, taxes, price of the mineral commodity being mined, and the demand for it.
